Introduction
In the intricate practice of Xuan Kong Flying Star Feng Shui, time and space are woven together to determine the quality of energy (Qi) in our environments. As we navigate the current solar year, the annual Star #5—ominously known as the Five Yellow or Lian Zhen—demands our absolute attention. It is widely regarded as the most volatile, aggressive, and potentially destructive energy in the Flying Star system. When this star flies into a specific sector of your home or office, it introduces the potential for sudden obstacles, financial hemorrhaging, and severe health challenges.
However, in the tradition of authentic Feng Shui, we do not operate out of fear; we operate out of knowledge and strategic alignment. The core principle of neutralizing this star is elegant and logical: we utilize the Metal element to drain its Earthly strength.
This year, the stakes are higher than usual. We are in a Year of the Fire Horse (Bing Wu), and the Five Yellow has landed in the South sector. This creates a specific, high-intensity elemental interaction that requires precise remedies. This guide provides a comprehensive, professional plan for the year, explaining the star's nature, the unique "Fire-Earth" danger of the current cycle, and step-by-step instructions for applying powerful cures.
Understanding The Five Yellow
The Star's Basic Nature
The Five Yellow belongs to the Earth element. Unlike the benevolent Earth energy of the #8 Wealth Star, the #5 is erratic, ruthless, and unforgiving. It represents the archetype of a tyrannical emperor: when respected and pacified, it may remain dormant, but when disturbed, insulted, or activated, the repercussions are swift and often severe.
In the current Period 9 (2024–2043), the cosmos is governed by the Fire element (Li Trigram). In the Five Element cycle, Fire produces Earth. This means that all Earth stars (including the #2 Illness Star and the #5 Misfortune Star) are receiving internal support from the period energy itself. They are stronger, more reactive, and harder to suppress than they were in previous decades. Its primary negative manifestations include: * Catastrophic Loss: Sudden financial collapse or theft. * Health Crises: Issues related to the stomach, heart, eyes, and skin. * Accidents: Physical injuries or unexpected calamities.
The Critical Danger: The South Sector
For the Year of the Fire Horse, the Five Yellow Star flies into the South sector. This creates a precarious "Double Affliction" scenario that makes the South the most dangerous area of any property this year.
1. The Elemental Supercharge (Fire Feeds Earth) The South is the palace of Fire (Li Trigram). The Five Yellow is Earth. According to the Constructive Cycle of elements, Fire produces Earth. By landing in a Fire sector, the disaster star is being "fed" and strengthened by the room itself. The South sector is acting like a furnace, baking the #5 star into a hardened, powerful force. A standard, small metal cure may not be enough to handle this amplified energy.
2. The Tai Sui Conflict This year, the Grand Duke Jupiter (Tai Sui) is also located in the South (specifically in the Horse direction, 172.5°–187.5°). This means the South sector hosts both the misfortune of the Five Yellow and the immense authority of the Tai Sui. * The Result: You are dealing with a volatile disaster star that has the backing of the year’s commanding energy. This makes the South sector extremely sensitive.
How The Star Gets Activated
The negative energy of the Five Yellow remains dormant unless triggered. The triggers are almost always sources of active Yang energy. In the South sector this year, you must be hyper-vigilant against: * Earth-Moving: Digging, breaking ground, drilling, or renovation in the South is strictly forbidden. This offends both the Five Yellow and the Tai Sui instantly. * Noise and Vibration: Loud music, slamming doors, banging, or heavy machinery will "wake up" the affliction. * Fire Energy: Adding red items, candles, or bright lights in the South will supercharge the Earth energy of the #5 star to dangerous levels.
The Core Principle of the Cure
To neutralize the Five Yellow, we rely on the Weakening Cycle of the Five Elements. The #5 is massive Earth energy.
- Do NOT use Wood: While Wood destroys Earth, attacking a strong, hostile star with Wood (plants, green colors) usually provokes it into a fight, leading to legal issues or anger.
- Do NOT use Fire: Fire feeds Earth. Red colors or lights will make the misfortune worse.
- Do NOT use Earth: Crystals or pottery will simply add more mass to the problem.
- MUST USE METAL: In the cycle of elements, Earth produces Metal. By introducing heavy Metal energy, the Earth star is forced to "exert" itself to produce the Metal. This drains its energy naturally, peacefully, and effectively.
The Strategy for the South: Because the South (Fire) is strengthening the #5 (Earth), you need Heavy Metal. You are trying to drain a mountain that is being supported by a volcano. Thin, light metal is insufficient.
Step-by-Step Cure Guide
Cure 1: The Salt Water Cure
This is the non-negotiable, heavy-lifting remedy for the Five Yellow. The chemical reaction between the salt, water, and metal creates a cleansing field that actively absorbs negative Qi and creates an ionic barrier.
- Function: It acts as a trap for the heavy, stagnant vibration of the #5 star.
-
Materials Needed:
- A glass jar or wide ceramic container (1-liter capacity).
- Coarse sea salt or rock salt (fill 3/4 of the jar).
- 6 Chinese Coins (Brass/Bronze) + 1 Silver Coin (optional but recommended for extra metal energy).
- Clean water.
- A protective mat or plate (the salt will crystallize and can damage floors).
- Placement: Place this in the South sector of your home or room. It should be exposed to the air (do not cover the jar).
- Maintenance: As the salt crystallizes over the rim, it signifies the cure is working. Top up with water if it dries out. Never recycle these coins or the jar. At the end of the solar year (before the next Li Chun), throw the entire apparatus away.
Cure 2: The 6-Rod Metal Wind Chime
Sound is a powerful way to disperse stagnant energy (Yin Qi) and break up the "clotted" energy of the Five Yellow.
-
Specification: It must be hollow metal (brass, copper, or steel) and have exactly 6 rods.
- Why 6? In the I-Ching, the number 6 represents the Qian (Heaven) Trigram, which is pure Metal. This is the ultimate elemental controller of Earth.
- Placement: Hang this in the South. If the South has a window or door, the gentle movement is beneficial. However, ensure it does not clang violently during storms, as excessive noise can disturb the Tai Sui. Gentle, metallic "tinking" sounds are ideal.
Cure 3: The Metal Wu Lou
The Wu Lou (Gourd) is the traditional Taoist symbol of health and longevity. Since the #5 star triggers health calamities, this is a vital secondary cure.
- Material: It must be made of Metal (Brass/Bronze is ideal). A natural dried gourd acts as Wood and is dangerous to use against the #5 Yellow.
- Placement: Place this on a table, shelf, or bedside table in the South sector.
Cure Summary Table
| Cure | Primary Element | Main Function | Best For... |
|---|---|---|---|
| Salt Water Cure | Metal, Water | Absorbing & trapping negative Qi | Essential for the South sector (floor level). |
| 6-Rod Wind Chime | Metal (Heaven) | Weakening Earth via Sound | Hanging near windows or doors in the South. |
| Metal Wu Lou | Metal | Absorbing sickness energy | Bedrooms or near the bed in the South. |
| Heavy Metal Objects | Metal | Draining Earth via Mass | Dumbbells, metal statues, or trophies in the South. |
Advanced Strategies for High-Risk Areas
Bedroom in the South
If your bedroom is located in the South, you are sleeping in the most volatile sector of the year. The passive Yin energy of sleep makes your body vulnerable to the #5 star's influence, potentially leading to chronic fatigue, skin issues, or heart-related problems (due to the Fire/Earth clash).
- Strategy: Create a "Metal Cocoon." Use white, grey, gold, silver, or metallic bedding.
- Strict Prohibition: Remove all red sheets, pillows, and rugs immediately.
- Cures: Place a Salt Water Cure in the corner of the room (hidden behind a cabinet is fine). Place two heavy brass Wu Lous on the nightstands.
- Avoidance: If you have a spare room in a beneficial sector (like the Southeast or North this year), moving out of the South bedroom is the most effective "cure" available.
Main Door in the South
A main door in the South is a critical issue this year. The door is the "Mouth of Qi." Every time you open and close it, the movement activates the Five Yellow and triggers the Tai Sui. This can bring misfortune to the entire household.
- Protection: Flank the door with heavy metal objects. A pair of metal Fu Dogs or large brass planters (empty or filled with metal weights/gym weights, no soil) works well.
- Color: Use a grey, white, or metallic gold doormat. Avoid red or brown doormats.
- Sound: Hang a 6-rod metal wind chime on the door handle. This ensures that every time the door is activated, a metallic sound "cures" the energy instantly.
Kitchen in the South
This is perhaps the most dangerous configuration. A kitchen stove represents the Fire element. * The Sector is South (Fire). * The Stove is Fire. * The Star is #5 (Earth). * The Result: Massive Fire producing Massive Earth. This indicates severe illness, particularly related to the stomach, digestive system, or eyes.
- Remedy: You cannot easily move a stove. Place large glass jars of still water (yin water) around the kitchen to cool the excess Fire.
- Decor: Remove all red items, tea towels, and mats. Use stainless steel appliances and white decor.
- Action: Minimize the use of the stove. If possible, use a portable induction cooker in a different sector (like the East or Southeast) for long-cooking meals.
The "Don'ts" Checklist for the South Sector
Because the South hosts the Five Yellow, the Tai Sui, and the Three Killings (San Sha) influence (partially affecting the broader Southern band), strict adherence to these rules is non-negotiable.
- 🚫 NO Renovation: Do not hammer, drill, break walls, or replace flooring in the South. Even hanging a picture frame with a nail can trigger the Tai Sui, leading to immediate injury or loss.
- 🚫 NO Digging: If you have a garden in the South, do not dig holes, plant trees, or install ponds. Leave the soil completely undisturbed.
- 🚫 NO Fire Colors: Remove Red, Purple, Orange, Pink, and Burgundy decor. These colors act as fuel for the disaster star.
- 🚫 NO Earth Decor: Remove crystals, terracotta pots, stone statues, or square shapes. These add mass to the #5 Earth star.
- 🚫 NO Bright Lights: Turn off bright porch lights, chandeliers, or spotlights in the South. Keep the area dimly lit (Yin) to encourage the bad star to sleep.
- 🚫 NO Facing South: Do not sit at your desk or watch TV while facing the South. This confronts the Tai Sui. While we usually advise sitting with your back to the Tai Sui for support, the presence of the Five Yellow makes the South a "no-go" zone for sitting entirely. If you must be there, sit facing North, but preferably, move your desk to a different sector (like the Southeast).
Living in Harmony
Feng Shui is not about superstition; it is about environmental management and awareness. By identifying that the South sector holds the year's most volatile energy—amplified by the Fire element of the period and the year—you can take logical steps to neutralize it.
The goal is not to live in fear of the South sector, but to "quiet" it. Layer your Metal cures, keep the area peaceful, and strictly avoid renovation. By respecting the energy of the Five Yellow and the Tai Sui, you ensure that your home remains a sanctuary of health and prosperity, allowing you to focus on capitalizing on the auspicious stars in the rest of your space.

Xion
Thank you very much for the rich information you provide, I was exposed to Feng Shui a few years ago, and the information is still so interesting that it feels like there is no end to it :) Because every house brings with it a different energy. I would be happy to ask you a question regarding the center of the house, which falls exactly in the south area. I understand that there are layers for correction: the first layer is the bagua, the second layer is flying stars according to the year of the house, the era stars of 20 years, and the third layer is the two-year stars that I believe are much stronger. And here is the confusion. I live in a multi-story building and the center of the house falls on the elevator floor and the stairwell that faces south. So on the one hand, I placed ceramic dishes to anchor the energy of the earth, and on the other hand, star 5 is there this year. I thought about placing a wind chime, but I feel like there are multiple corrections and in addition to the era stars, I have a star 2 water and 3 mountain there. I would appreciate clarity :) Thank you very much
